BAEO congratulates Dr. RaeNell Houston on becoming first Black superintendent of New Orleans Catholic schools

Jacqueline Cooper, president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO), released the following statement on the appointment of Dr. RaeNell Houston as the next superintendent of the New Orleans region's Catholic schools.

"The Archdiocese of New Orleans made an excellent choice selecting Dr. RaeNell Houston to become the next superintendent of the region's Catholic schools. Her history-making appointment as the first Black superintendent is only one measure of her success in education. RaeNell has worked tirelessly to promote high-quality educational options like those offered at her schools, yet has been a steadfast supporter of parental choice policies that expands these options for underserved families across the greater New Orleans community.

"RaeNell has represented BAEO on many occasions before Louisiana state panels and committees and has been a strong advocate for accurate assessment and testing of our children. We have no doubt that she will make a great superintendent and will continuing fighting for all children to have access to excellent schools.

"Again, congratulations RaeNell."
