BAEO Mourns Loss of Former Board Member Lawrence C. Patrick, Jr.

The Black Alliance for Educational Options mourns the loss of former board member Lawrence C. Patrick, Jr., proud husband, father and pioneer in the education reform community.

"Lawrence was more than just a board member, he was a friend, leader and a warrior for low-income and working-class Black families," said BAEO Chairman Emeritus Howard Fuller. "He will be truly missed."

"Lawrence dedicated his life working to change the plight of Black families and children across the country and in his beloved city of Detroit. BAEO offers condolences to his family, including to his son, Larry Patrick, III, who served as the second president of our organization," said BAEO President Jacqueline Cooper.

Patrick's many years of public and charitable service also included service as a member of the Board of Directors of Michigan Future, and a Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Black United Fund of Michigan, Cranbrook Institute of Science and the Cass Tech Alumni Association. The Lawrence C. Patrick, Jr. Foundation, which is named in his honor, works to advance the lives of young people through education.
